The stories and the things seen through the eyes of a typical asian, Albert Nguyen

In my summer holidays, my asian family and friends traveled up to Cairns for a holiday and it turned out to be quite interesting.

Day 1

We had an early morning wake up at 5:30 today. It was an excruciatingly painful thing to do. But before we knew it, we were eating up Eggs Benedict at the airport, then having a 3 hour flight to Cairns. :D

Cairns was hot, sticky and wet. Everyday was at least 30 degrees. First day was quite eventful.

Day 2

Today we were forced by the older guys on the holiday to go on an all-day food tour. We ate cheese, drank coffee and ate nuts…fun, while my dad couldn’t understand the jokes the tour guide was telling him. Embarassing…

We did see some big trees though…

Day 3 Port Douglas

This day, to em was only the beginning of our holiday. It was only because of the beaches :D All we got to do here was hill out and relax. I still feel bad for eating such an expensive meal compared to my cousins’ full meal of $8 which included a serve of ice-cream and a drink. They were ‘pulling an asian’.

Day 4 Great Barrier Reef

TODAY WAS THE BEST! It was so fun :D We took an hour long trip on a boat to this particular company’s area in the barrier reef where we were allowed to go snorkeling in the GBR. My cousins, Joanne and Cathy, decided to go scuba diving; and i tagged along :D It was the best underwater experience for me. We got to touch pretty rainbow coloured fishes.

After we got back, the young ones ate a whole tub of ice-cream to ourselves while waiting for new years.

Day 5 Tubing in some river….

Today was the final day, and the ‘young ones’ decided to go tubing down some river… in a middle of a rain forest :) We did have a problem though… We were TOO young and we had to force the whole bus of tourists to turn around and wait for us to find an adult. It was embarrassing >.< It was pretty relaxing though

BYE BYE Cairns! I’ll come next time for the scuba diving licence.

Well, the other day, I went busking for the first time. It thought of it to be so exciting. Playing outside in the street with a free licence and getting ‘poo’ change from the tourists and the city people.

On the first day, we planted ourselves on Swanston Street and set up our trio of Clarinets. We played for about half an hour and earned ourselves $15, which was not too bad…. but then some guy came up and gave us another 15 dollars, and we ended up with 30 dollars in total before getting kicked out of our ‘site’ by an Indian shopkeeping trying to sell ‘Aussie’ souvenirs to the locals.

On the second day, we figured we’d do better than yesterday with an extra person and with our new ‘experience’. Turns out we received 8 bucks after 1 long hour, before it started bucketing down with rain. Not even a share of 2 dollars could afford me anything.

No more busking for us due to the amount of stinginess in Melbourne.

Well, i guess it all started with the holidays, and how boring it quickly gets after only about a week. This is inspired by my cousin Joey, who has her own blog. I guess I should talk about myself before doing any other things

Things about me:

1. I’m 187 cm, which is very unusual for an asian. (and still growing…)

2. I play 3 instruments: Violin, Piano and Clarinet.

3. I’m Viet, and proud to be one.

4. I am forced to go tutor every Sunday.

5. I love anime, as well as Community, Modern Family, How I met your Mother and Friends.

I think that’s all you need to know for now.
